Linux affinity:

You benefit from a very large portfolio including thousands of Linux applications as a result of the compatibility of the AIX 5L™ with Linux applications.
The Linux development environment has been integrated into AIX™. You can now easily develop and maintain applications in a single standardized environment and deploy them on both the cost efficient Linux platforms and highly scalable Escala PL servers.

Platform independent administration:

The Web-based System Manager (WebSM) delivers a state-of-the-art user interface which allows a platform independent administration for managing Escala PL systems and provides a quick and easy access to the most important status information and frequently performed tasks.

Heterogeneous environments addressed:

To improve ease of management for administrators in their heterogeneous Unix environments, including Solaris™, SCO Uniware…, some commands and tools have been added into AIX 5L™ for common system administration tasks.

Integration of standards:

Java 2 platform V1.3 for building sophisticated Web applications easily and quickly and then deploying them
HTML/XML for enabling platform independent presentation of information

AIX 5L™ version 5.2, certified for UNIX 98, is based on the sound legacy of AIX™ and is recognised for its ability to manage the Internet and its applications.
AIX™ is backed up by open technologies from some of the world's top providers. By operating a wide range of servers, from 2-processor entry servers to 32-processor high-end servers, AIX 5L™ ensures the reliability, availability, high performance levels and security required for e-business and enterprise servers.
Continual innovations and improvements to enhance the scalability, reliability, availability and serviceability of the system: a new file system manages the storage of large files during the implementation of e-business applications security.
