March 2006

2006 will be a landmark year for healthcare information systems in France, with the build-up of major new initiatives in infrastructure (Vitale 2, data hosting), security of exchanges and standardization. It will also be an opportunity to evaluate the initial experiences from the trials of the country’s DMP (Dossier Médical Personnel or single electronic patient record) project, and the conditions for its successful implementation.

The transformation of the healthcare IT marketplace, driven by the need to exchange and share information between health professionals, is now speeding up by the planned implementation of the DMP between now and 2007.

The Santénergie consortium – formed by Siemens, Bull and EDS, and chosen by the GIP-DMP (the French government body charged with choosing the suppliers for the DMP project) to take part in the demonstration and preconfiguration phases of the program – is sponsoring a round-table discussion on Wednesday 15 March from 5.15pm to 6.45pm. The discussion will focus on, “The content of single electronic patient records and the evolution of hospital and family doctor systems”. Dominique Lehalle, a journalist specializing in the medical sector, will chair the discussion, with a panel consisting of healthcare professionals involved in implementing the DMP project, including:

  • Dr Denis No Mura, Lisieux-Caen, President of the PriSM (the regional shared healthcare information platform) Association in the Normandy region
  • Dr François Lemaire, a family and hospital practitioner from the University Hospital, Limoges
  • Professor Loïc Le Normand, a urologist at University Hospital, Nantes and regional coordinator for the French Urology Association
  • Professor Dominique Bordessoule, head of the clinical hematology and cell therapy department at University Hospital, Limoges
