Overtoom signs outsourcing deal with Bull

Agreement will result in substantial cost reductions and enhanced productivity

Overtoom, the Dutch market leader in office and warehouse supplies, has signed an outsourcing agreement with Bull Netherlands. As part of this agreement, Bull will be responsible for maintaining and keeping Overtoom’s IT environment up-to-date, as well as providing rapid and appropriate resolution of incidents. Bull will handle the management of Overtoom’s end-to-end IT infrastructure, including the Windows servers and the UNIX storage environment. Additionally, Bull will be responsible for the management and monitoring of the Oracle database environment. A flexible agreement was concluded for the management of the virtual Windows servers, as a result of which Overtoom will only have to pay a monthly fee for the servers it has actually used.

An important component of the new outsourcing deal involves the upgrade of the UNIX server fleet. This environment is vitally important to Overtoom, since it runs the company’s business-critical ERP system. Bull has enhanced the UNIX environment by increasing availability of its Escala servers while reducing the costs.

Joost Manasse, IT Director at Overtoom commented: “We like to think that in a rapidly-changing market one may expect to achieve rapid ROI. With respect to the UNIX fleet, we are improving our total cost of ownership by two years. This means a substantial cost reduction.”

The newly concluded agreement with Bull caters for Overtoom’s need to enable its IT organization to focus on its internal customers. “Internal customers are making ever higher demands,” Manasse confirmed. “They expect to be provided with support when and where they need it. Where previously our IT staff focused on the availability of systems, they are now able to fully devote their time to internal customers, ensuring the latter can work more efficiently, thereby increasing the productivity of our organization.”
