A first in France in the field of embedded medical computing
Bull is helping the Fort de France University Hospital Centre in the definition and installation of an embedded medical solution for the SAMU (Mobile Accident Unit)
Paris,
May
18, 2005 -
Bull has been chosen by Martinique's University Hospital Centre (UHC) for consulting and assistance in the development of an innovative embedded IT solution, intended to support the medical teams in their interventions. This is a first in France.
Financed by the French state in the frame of the e-Santé project, the local authorities and the hospital, the project -called Newton- aims to make it possible for Mobile Accident Unit doctors to consult and update, from the intervention site, patient medical records. Newton is very sophisticated system that can equally provide the Vidal drugs database, a digital mapping system and a computerised medical decision-making system. It allows emergency doctors to communicate on-demand with hospitals and in the future with general practitioners, and with other hospital emergency structures to ensure optimal patient healthcare.
Bull supported the UHC and the Mobile Accident Unit in all phases of the project:
- Help in project management, needs definition, specification and selection of the sub-contractors;
- Definition of the target architecture, in particular in terms of data and application security requirements;
- Directing the project, synchronisation and coordination of the various actors for developing the solution, and the functional acceptance at the end of March 2005.
In addition, Bull supplied the infrastructure including 8 servers running Linux® and Windows® hosting the solution.
Healthcare is a major and strategic area of growth for Bull. Bull has just published a White Paper presenting the stakes of this business sector and the contribution of IT for such important issues as the personal medical record (Dossier Medical Personnalisé) and event price setting (known as tarification à l'activité).
"Bull's contribution alongside the COSIH* project manager Yvon Marie-Sainte, was determining in the success of this innovative complex project. Their consultants were the continuing driving force throughout the project to reach a successful operational system one year after the project was launched" stated Doctor Christian Léonard, SAMU Department Head for the Fort de France hospital.
"This project is a wonderful example of Bull's capacity to develop innovative and secured solutions, and to lead such projects for the most sensitive sectors of the hospital environment." Stated Marie-Claude Capitaine head of COSIH.
