From server environments to middleware and services, Bull helps businesses and public sector customers implement robust infrastructures that capitalize on the latest advances in Linux and Open Source software.

Bull is the only European supplier to be involved at all three levels in Open Source:

  • As a manufacturer, creating Open Source components as part of hardware platforms.
  • As a software publisher, developing existing Open Source components to deliver added value.
  • As an integrator, offering a wide range of services linked to Open Source software, from support to integration.

Linux servers

With NovaScale® servers, Bull offers a complete range of Linux servers certified by Novell-SUSE and Red Hat, based on Intel® Xeon™ or Intel® Itanium® 2 processors.

With Escala servers, Bull also offers a complete line of servers, based on POWER processors and running Linux.

Highly robust and scalable, Bull’s high-performance solutions enable organizations to implement Linux with total confidence for their applications: whether they are front-line (portals, email, caches…), mid-tier (application servers, content management…) or central (ERP, datawarehousing…).

In particular, through its competence centers, Bull enables ERP, datawarehousing and business intelligence solutions to be deployed in Linux environments. The company has created ‘Linux Infrastructure’, a group of tools and services that enable the implementation of major industry applications such as those offered by BEA, Oracle and SAP.

Bull also offers especially powerful HPC solutions, including their own fully optimized Linux distribution and innovative network storage solutions from its partners. For example, Bull has been chosen by the French Atomic Energy Authority (the CEA) to supply one the most powerful supercomputer ever built in the world. Delivering beyond 50 teraflops, the configuration is based on a cluster of over 600 Bull NovaScale® servers, running under Linux.

Open Source software platforms and middleware

Bull is a founder of OW2 consortium, the leading international consortium in open source middleware. Bull is also a strategic partner of JBoss. With this expertise, Bull has developed a common middleware solutions platform – Bull Service-Oriented Architecture (BSOA) –, based on OW2 and JBoss software, that is available as part of its Open Energy services offering.
