Point of Sale Terminals Year 2000 Compliance
Hardware

Last content update: July 31, 1998 (see Notice)

For point-of-sale terminal hardware, this compliance catalogue lists only the main units (CPU), as the peripheral components do not manipulate dates directly.

The problem identified on some CPUs is in the BIOS. The BIOS will roll over to the year 2000 correctly and will hold the year 2000 while powered. However, when power is switched off and then back on, the internal date reverts to the year 1980.

For 2001, 2002, and later years, the BIOS holds the proper year. Also, if the user sets a date of January 1, 2000 or later using the BIOS setup mechanism or the operating system DATE function, the date is retained correctly.
