IT Infrastructure Assessments

A typical Bull Services Infrastructure Assessment includes a comprehensive study of the Network Infrastructure and Windows servers. A presentation and written report are delivered to the customer at the conclusion of the assessment, which includes our findings and recommendations. Recommendations are generally provided in two categories. “Quick Wins” identify those suggested actions that can be completed with limited effort and expense. The second category offers more strategic recommendations and includes at some level a recommended IT infrastructure architecture.
The network portion includes a review of the following major categories:
- Current Network Infrastructure and Current Projects
- Planned Changes to existing Network Infrastructure
- Router/Switch/Hub Configurations (concerns and configuration process)
- Traffic Patterns (LAN and WAN, peak and off-peak)
- Bottlenecks (use monitoring tools to isolate bottlenecks/congestion)
- Utilization (look at router ports and interconnected switch/hubs)
- Response Times (LAN Services)
- Identify Collisions and Errors
The server portion includes a review of the following major categories:
- Hardware (processor, memory, disk space, file system)
- Windows Services (operating system, Service packs, WINS, DHCP, RAS, DNS)
- Applications (SQL, remote administration software, e-mail, backup, anti-virus)
- Performance and capacity management (processor and memory utilization, drive shares)
- Operational processes and procedures (system management tools and processes)
- Current server architecture (Active Directory, Domain Structure)
- Planned architecture changes (review projects and designs)
